Hundreds of stolen catalytic converters busted, two suspects detained

HOUSTON – Authorities are investigating after hundreds of stolen catalytic converters were recovered from a used car sales lot in northeast Houston.

After receiving reports of a theft, North East Officers arrived in the 4400 block of Lockwood Drive where they located two male suspects and 300-400 stolen catalytic converters.

The suspects were at a used sales car lot, it is unclear if they were employees or owners of the business.

Officers will attempt to locate the owners of the catalytic converters, however, that may be difficult since they aren’t serialized.

HPD’s Lt Crowson has urged people to etch their license plate numbers into catalytic converters, weld brackets around the cats to prevent theft or even spray paint them with a high temp paint to make them more identifiable in the event they are stolen.
