NJ Gov. Phil Murphy calls anti-vaxxers ‘the ultimate knuckleheads’

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy called anti-vaxxers, whose adherents question the safety of many vaccines, including for the coronavirus, “the ultimate knuckleheads” at a Union City news conference on Wednesday (August 4).

“Please get vaccinated if you are not vaccinated,” he said, as the anti-vaccine protesters heckled him off camera. “Please get vaccinated. Period. These folks back there have lost their minds. You’ve lost your minds. You are the ultimate knuckleheads. And because of what you are saying and standing for, people are losing their life. People are losing their life. And you have to know that. Look in the mirror. Look in the mirror.”

Murphy has previously said transport, jail, hospital and nursing home workers would be required to get vaccinated or submit to regular testing and has suggested he could clamp down even further on residents and businesses if case numbers do not drop.

The highly contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus continues to surge nationwide.
