US acts of terrorizing virus origin tracing harm entire globe:commentary

The acts of some U.S. politicians are nothing but practicing “origin-tracing terrorism” around the globe, using the traceability issue as a weapon to smear and suppress China, said a China Media Group (CMG) commentary on Wednesday.

Extracts of the article are as follows:

On Aug 2, Michael McCaul, Lead Republican of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, released a report alleging that there is a preponderance of evidence that the virus leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) sometime before September 2019.

The incidence shows that some U.S. politicians cannot even wait for the ridiculous “90-day probe conclusion” of the U.S. intelligence community, and jumped out to pressure WHO and smear and suppress China in the international community.

McCaul’s so-called report, entirely based on fabricated lies and distorted facts, cannot provide any solid evidence. It can not deceive the international community at all, as it is not credible, nor scientific. As a media commentary in the UAE pointed out, the United States does not regard the traceability of the virus as a public health issue, but as a weapon to attack countries with different political stances.

The WHO and Chinese joint investigation team issued a report earlier this year stating that the virus is “very unlikely” to be leaked from Chinese laboratories. However, to try to throw mud once again at China, some people in the U.S. are hyping up the “laboratory leak theory” by all means and sparing no effort to resort to coercion and bullying.

All their actions have crossed the bottom line of morality and run counter to science and facts. What they are doing are tantamount to practicing “origin-tracing terrorism” around the globe.

Among others, the U.S. side has pressured WHO into the second-phase COVID-19 origin tracing in China and suppressed some professional scientists, which has aroused indignation across the world.

For example, Peter Daszak, chairman of EcoHealth Alliance, a small non-profit organization in the U.S., came to China this year to conduct traceability research as a WHO expert. However, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) canceled a multimillion-dollar grant for Daszak’s organization because he spoke fairly for China.

Dmitry Lvov, a Russian virologist with WHO, said that there is a huge amount of pressure on people withinWHO, and a lot of pressure comes from the U.S. These Americans don’t want virologists to tell the truth about the epidemic, he said.

Australian virologist Danielle Anderson, who repeatedly opposed the theory that COVID-19 was leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, paid a price for her honesty. She received insulting emails. The attack she faced was so vehement that she had to call the police.

Wilson Edwards, a biologist from Bern, Switzerland, commented recently that as scientific issues continue to be politicized, he had no doubt that the WHO advisory group would be succumbed to a political tool of the U.S. Under the pressure from the United States, the plan of second-phase COVID-19 origin tracing, announced by the WHO Secretariat for discussion among member states, has lost the spirit of science and cooperation in nature and is full of politicization, which has been opposed by many countries.

The origin tracing of the virus must be done with respect for science and not fall to tools of political manipulation. The U.S. attempt to terrorize origin tracing is endangering the whole world. The move, in essence, is holding back the global scientific community from finding the source of the novel coronavirus and disrupting the process of defeating the epidemic with scientific weapons. It is extremely irresponsible for the people of the whole world, including those in the United States.

As the world’s most unsuccessful country in the fight against the pandemic, the United States has reported 35 million cases of COVID-19, of which more than 620,000 have died as a result of their ineffective countermeasures. This is the result of U.S. politicians’ aggressive political manipulation. It will not only become an eternal trauma in U.S. history, but also leave an ugly mark in the history of mankind’s fight against the pandemic.

The attempt made by some U.S. politicians to link China or even other Asian countries with the origin of the novel coronavirus has stimulated anti-Asian sentiment in certain Western countries, including the Untied States, and exacerbated racial discrimination and hatred. This is a bad result of “origin-tracing terrorism” at a deeper level. It not only teared off the masks reading “equality” and “human rights” advertised by some people in the United States, but also created the division and confrontation among human society, which is a crime against all mankind.

On Aug 2, more than 300 political parties, social organizations, and think tanks in more than 100 countries and regions around the world submitted a “Joint Statement” to the WHO Secretariat, calling on WHO to objectively and impartially conduct research on the traceability of the coronavirus, and resolutely oppose the politicization of the traceability issues. There emerges an overwhelming chorus around the world. If those U.S. politicians who engage in “origin-tracing terrorism” for their own selfish ends continue to keep their eyes closed and insist on going down the wrong path of political manipulation, they will be doomed to end up in surging public opinions of the international community.
