Nicholas weakens to tropical storm

HOUSTON – Hurricane Nicholas has weakened into a tropical storm after making landfall in Texas. 

The storm entered the state near Sargent Beach, about 75 miles away from Houston as a category one hurricane at 1:30 A.M. eastern.

Tropical Storm Nicholas is producing winds of 70 miles per hour and is expected to drop up to a foot of rain, with some isolated areas receiving up to 18 inches. 

Houston was devastated by the category four Hurricane Harvey four years ago which left 68 people dead.

That was the highest death toll of a hurricane in Texas since 1919. 

Nicholas has so far left more than 130-thousand homes and businesses without power.
