Tropical Storm Nicholas causes power outages across Houston area

HOUSTON – The severe weather and winds from Tropical Storm Nicholas caused widespread power outages across Houston area.

According to CenterPoint Energy’s outage tracker, 443,330 customers were without electricity as of 7:45 a.m. Tuesday.

In a tweet, CenterPoint Energy said estimated duration for electricity restoration could be delayed or unavailable altogether as the condition is being assessed.

In a news conference Monday night, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said CenterPoint crews are fully prepared to restore electricity as quickly as possible.

“I can assure you they have plenty of people that are out there deployed to get power restored,” Turner said.

CenterPoint also warned residents to be aware of downed power lines that could be hidden by floodwaters so don’t drive or walk through flooded areas.
