Big rig catches fire on Wayside Drive

HOUSTON – Both directions of wayside drive were closed for traffic after a big rig caught fire early Wednesday.

According to HFD, the 18-wheeler was hauling 25 tons of powder cement.

The driver of the truck said he was driving down Wayside when black smoke started to pump in through the vents into the cab. 

When he got out with his fire extinguisher, the entire front end was already on fire.

Later, HFD units reached the location for assistance.
