Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador met in the Mexican Culture Institute in Washington D.C. during the North American leader’s summit on Thursday (November 18).
Trudeau and Lopez Obrador appeared before journalists ahead of the start of the meeting with Canadian and Mexican government officials.
The Canadian leader said they were hoping to address topics such as indigenous peoples, women’s leadership and the relationship between both countries.
“We are two sister nations, we are very close,” added Lopez Obrador.
The event hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden will be the first North American Leaders’ Summit since 2016.
The White House says the meeting will focus on COVID-19, competitiveness, migration and growth.
