Man in his 70s fatally struck in Galleria area

HOUSTON – A man in his 70s died after a car struck him in Galleria area Monday night. 

According to police, he was walking in the main lanes near the intersection of Westheimer and Yorktown when a driver hit him.

The driver tried to avoid the pedestrian but still struck him, and then left the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported by HFD to a nearby trauma center where he succumbed to his wounds.

Police said the pedestrian was about 50 feet from a crosswalk, and the driver had a green light.

After the incident, the driver remained at scene and was seen cooperating with the investigation.
