National Guard responds to heavy flooding in Pacific Northwest

As heavy rains caused flooding in parts of the Northwestern United States, Washington state deployed the National Guard to assist with emergency preparations.

Flood and gale warnings were in place across many coastal areas in the Pacific Northwest, as video emerged showing properties, roads and fields under water.

Members of the National Guard filled sandbags on Friday (January 7) to protect properties in Lewis County, Washington.

The hazardous weather affected several major roads across the state and left more than 50,000 customers without power.
