HOUSTON – An HPD patrol car caught fire after crash during a chase in northwest Houston early Tuesday.
The crash happened after 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of Fairbanks N. Houston and West Little York.
It all started after when an officer from HPD North Shepherd spotted a suspicious car that may have been involved in a catalytic converted theft few months ago. The suspect ran a red light and that’s when the officer tried to pull him over but he took off.
The chase lasted about six minutes and ended when that officer crashed into a sedan at the intersection.
The patrol vehicle caught fire after the impact while the officer was able to self-extricate and sustained minor scrapes.
A 53-year-old female driver was trapped inside the sedan and later transported as a precaution with minor injuries.
HPD VCD is handling the investigation.
