Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 3400 East Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 3400 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 3 a.m. on February 6.

The suspect, Herminio Thu Orozco, 21, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in accident involving death in the 177th State District Court.  A booking photo of Orozco is attached to this news release.

The female victim was identified as Jesslyn Zuniga, 18.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Phillips reported:

A gray Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was traveling near the above address, struck a barrier multiple times, and came to a stop on the shoulder of the freeway.  According to witnesses on the service road, a disturbance was heard and a male voice shouting.

A male and a deceased female (Ms. Zuniga) were later observed on the service road.  The male fled the scene on foot.  Houston police homicide investigators initially opened an investigation into what at that time was believed to be a suicide.

Further investigation identified Orozco as the driver in this case.  He was charged and subsequently arrested on February 25.
