Ukrainians in Los Angeles celebrate Orthodox Easter at church

Members of Los Angeles’ Ukrainian community celebrated Orthodox Easter at midnight mass on Sunday (April 24) as war raged in their home country.

Hundreds turned out for the ceremony at the Ukrainian Cathedral of Saint Volodymyr. Father Vasile Sauciur, who has led the church since 2003, led the mass. He said that loss is heavy on the hearts and minds of parishioners.

The Cathedral of Saint Volodymyr was established in the 1920s and was the first Ukrainian church in California. Construction was completed in 1962.
