Lopez Obrador says U.S. considering giving work visa to Honduran migrants

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Friday (May 6) Joe Biden’s administration in the United States is considering granting worker visas to Honduran migrants to help solve the current migration crisis hitting the Central American country.

“He even mentioned that they were analysing the possibility of guaranteeing work visas for Hondurans. He said the same for other Central American countries, but I was struck that he emphatically mentioned Honduras,” Mexican President said during an official visit to Tegucigalpa.

According to Lopez Obrador, the issue came up during a phone call with President Biden on April 29th, where they reviewed bilateral cooperation for the development of Central America.

His Honduran counterpart Xiomara Castro considered it essential to deepen political, social, and economic relations with Mexico in order to guarantee the well-being of Hondurans.

Every year, thousands of Central Americans embark on a long and dangerous journey to the United States fleeing poverty, violence, and corruption while searching for the American dream.

However, many are victims of the dangers of the route.

Lopez Obrador’s tour will continue to Belize and end in Cuba on Sunday (May 8).
