Sharon Stone, Alicia Vikander among film stars who light up Cannes red carpet

The Cannes red carpet glittered as stars and models arrived for movie premieres on the sixth day of the film festival.

Sharon Stone had a small wardrobe glitch with her Dolce & Gabbana gown, as her escorts fumbled in detaching its bouffant layer.

Stone often hosts the annual AIDS charity gala on the sidelines of the festival.

Celebrity couple Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender made a rare public appearance on the red carpet, as Vikander premiered Olivier Assayas’ crime thriller “Irma Vep”.

French actors Isabelle Hupert, Virginie Efira and Melanie Laurent also turned up for the premiere of French-Italian director Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi’s “Forever Young”, in competition for the coveted Palme d’Or.

Another top prize contender, Iranian noir film “Holy Spider” by Ali Abbasi, premiered in the afternoon.

The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17-28, and the Palme d’Or will be awarded on the last day.
